For nearly 50 years, Skateboarder Magazine has been a driving force in the skateboarding industry. As mentioned on the mag’s Instagram account this morning, the magazine will be closing it’s doors after this next issue. It’s unclear what brought about the decision, but Norb Garrett of Grind Media have some more details on the decision in their YouTube announcement video, and we are still definitely bummed at this moment in time. There has been a lot of shifting around in the street skateboarding scene lately (Jason Dill, AVE, Alex Olson and others have recently moved on from long-time homes to pursue other interests) so perhaps there’s a bigger idea in here somewhere…
We hope that in the future this will not only be remembered as the end of something great, but also as the beginning of something greater.
From Skateboarder Magazine’s Instagram:
Bummer news today. Skateboarder was shut down. The next issue that comes out this week will be our last… We are really bummed to see such a great mag go away but would also like to thank all the people that helped make Skateboarder what is was and always will be…one of the best fucking skate magazines ever
We agree with these sentiments. Shred on, skatebrethren, wherever your wheels may roll.
