The Rayne “Phantom” is a symmetrical double kick, featuring Rayne’s signature fiberglass and bamboo construction. It is 37” long, just over 9 1/2” wide, and has an adjustable wheelbase of either 18 or 19”. The Phantom has a medium concave, long nose and tail kicks, and sharp rail edges on top and bottom.
The Testing:
We went all-out for the testing of the Rayne “Phantom”—we hit some spots and we hit the ground. Ha ha! It was super fun.
Results/Findings:
Pros:
The Phantom ‘s light-weight and stiff construction provide a more nimble ride than one might expect from a double-kick of this size. The nose and tail were neither too steep or too flat, so popping ollies was super easy and comfortable. The full nose and tail gave added confidence when kicking out and rotating slides.
Cons:
We don’t like using risers so we’d enjoy seeing some wheelwells added for more wheel clearance. We also hung up on a couple board slides and although most of that was just us sucking at skating, we so believe that the sharp rail-edge on the bottom of the deck could be rounded down to help make it more slidetastical.
Overall:
Hands-down, the Phantom is a deliciously shreddable double kick. The light-weight construction, stiffness, and length and angle of the nose and tail, combine to create an nimble “skate everything” deck that is ready to shreddy. We recommend this deck to any skater who loves skating all sorts of radical terrain.
