The event season is well underway and we’ve been out and about trying to cover as many of them as possible. The reason we document so many events is because no matter it a race, demo, tour, or jam; much of the growth of the larger scene happens, on-site, at these events. It’s all about skaters getting together, shredding with friends, and making new homies. This year’s second annual Downhill Disco was fun as all hell, and a clear example of a distinct growth in the community and an increased excitement about gettin’ radical. Read More

The Amanda Powell Interview: Heroine Of Shred

| April 2, 2025 | Comments (16)

Amanda going fast—Malibu chargin'! Photo: Bandy.

“Amanda Powell is the only lady I know in L.A. rushing to the Malibu hills as often as possible to skate what most guys are terrified to skate—firing-up her scooter and hitting the hills is Amanda’s daily routine.

When she isn’t job-hunting from her computer she is eating PB&J’s, mobbing a canyon run, or shredding the boardwalks of Venice Beach. Her effortless transitioning between a 55” dancer and an ever-shortening speed-board shows just how versatile of a skater she really is.

If you told her a year ago that there would be a press release about her switching board sponsors she would have called you crazy, and then skated away, surfboard under one arm, on her way to the beach.

Things are moving fast for Mander—I can’t wait to see what comes next.” (Dane Webber)

The Wheelbase One-Year Anniversary Party

| March 30, 2025 | Comments (0)

Wheelbase is a magazine born from the idea that the stories of skateboarding are best told by the skateboarders themselves—be it through photography, film, video, fine art, the written word, or otherwise—To put it simply, we have dedicated our lives to skateboarding and we love telling the tales of our skateboarding tribe.

Wheelbase became a reality, one year ago, on March 18th, 2011 and we are so grateful to be here living out our passion for Shredding! In order to express our gratitude and excitement, we decided to throw a Wheelbase one-year anniversary party and celebrate all of our friends and family who have made Wheelbase a reality. Please enjoy some of the sweet moments we captured throughout the night’s festivities: Read More

The Dillon Stephens Interview: Skate & Masticate

| March 16, 2025 | Comments (2)

Dillon doing it right: Fast and Full Mast!. Photo: Marcus Bandy.

“When Dillon Stephens isn’t mowing down on questionable roach-coach street-meat or punishing his digestive system with homemade, deep-fried concoctions; he’s out there on the hills leaving his mark—grinding a set of wheels to dust on the most high-speed, technical roads that he can get his feet on.

Dillon can be low-key most times and you won’t see him (soberly) calling attention to himself in a crowd. His presence on a skateboard is similar. Dillon doesn’t flail wildly or blow turns; he’s in control and skates with a fluid and precise style. That being said, Dillon’s hunger for speed is equal to his passion for food, and when the time comes for either he will definitely be in front of you.” (Kyle Martin) Read More

Scoot & His New Sector 9 Pro Model: “Tiffany”

| March 12, 2025 | Comments (4)

Scoot, chillin' hard in Malibu. Photo: Bandy.

Scoot is a ripping downhill shredder and has been skateboarding steep and winding roads for many, many moons. He was born in Mission, BC, Canada back in 1987 and now resides in East Vancouver. Scoot has won races all over the world, including Maryhill ’07, as well as others in Germany, Puerto Rico, Canada, and France. What really makes Scoot such a Cool Cat is not only his racing accolades, but it’s also because he’s just a chill-ass human being. By day, Scoot builds houses—it just so happens that he’s also one of the fastest skateboarders in the world.

When we heard that Sector 9 was releasing Scoot’s new downhill pro model, the “Tiffany”, we had to hit him up directly and get the scoop. The following are some images of Scoot riding his new “Tiffany” board, as well as a brief interview with the man himself discussing how this new deck came about and what is on the horizon for 2012.
