Max Myers embracing the unknown.
So yeah, I’m starting this new longboard-skateboard magazine and calling it Wheelbase. Shit’s crazy, I can’t believe it! Who would have thought that a punk-ass skate-rat would ever be in a position to start a magazine? This is such a trip—a good trip, but a trip nonetheless. I get a bit freaked out sometimes thinking about it all, and although I believe there is a serious need for a fresh perspective in longboarding—one that comes direct from actual skateboarders—ultimately, who knows what the hell’s gonna happen in the longterm? I can’t answer that. Who can? It’s my believe though that the most important moments in life are the one’s that test one’s mettle. This is one of those moments for me. My heart bleeds into this magazine, my back and gray matter are dedicated to the task completely—still, nothing’s a sure thing.
It is a universal Fact that no matter what you think you know—regardless your scientific or faith-based inclination and understanding—what happens next is never 100% guaranteed. You might be a powerful millionaire or you might be a debt-ridden beggar; no matter your station in life, over the long-term, anything can happen. The ever-looming unknown of our futures is one of the universal certainties of life, and in spite of the best laid schemes o’ mice and men, we must ultimately embrace this uncertainty, and learn to live within it’s realm.
I’m experiencing this uncertainty first-hand, right now. I never, ever thought I would be a longboarder myself and starting a longboard skateboard magazine. If you’d have asked me if longboarding would grow into it’s own culture and industry, back when I was heavily involved in the street skating scene in the 1990s and early 2000s, I would have laughed in your face. Straight up!
Things have changed though. Skateboarding has grown and is growing in ways that nobody, not even Nostradumbass, ever thought it would. A whole lot of people are freaked out by this unpredicted development, but I’m all copacetic. I’ve decided, like my bro in the above photo, to get on board and enjoy the ride. I embrace skateboarding’s, and life’s, exciting; unknown future. Fuck yes!
