There is nothing better than an impromptu session with the homies where ya roll around hitting whatever it is you can find along the way. I’ve been skating in this fashion since the ‘80s and sessions like these are all about vibing off one another—a skater in the pack sees a possibility to get rad and the rest of the crew rallies around whatever that possibility is and proceeds to shreds the shit out of it. Then, it’s on to the next spot and the process repeats itself. During this type of skating what board you’re riding doesn’t matter. It’s not about that nor is it about fashion. What does matters is that you are fully and wholeheartedly committed to the frenzy of seeking, shredding, and funning. Since there are no rules, and what is being skated is in constant flux, things get a bit weird. The whole idea is to get weird!—to explore the possibilities of your surroundings, and also challenge perspective; as well as your abilities and techniques.
Anyway, the above pic features my friends and I getting weird during our most recent bimonthly Weirdboard Wednedsays session held locally in the City of Long Beach. Please join us sometime—all skateboarding radicals and rolloerboardy beardos are welcome. I also strongly suggest seeking out and organizing your own local skate session—it’s good for your soul and for the soul of skateboarding. Have fun out there and help keep skateboarding weird!
