The Laguna Seca Invitational is back for 2014, this time with less invitation! Or is it more invitation? Whichever the wording, the registration is OPEN to all at the Laguna Seca Eventbrite page. As we’re typing this out, there are barely more than a dozen entrants. With 64 slots total, this is your chance to get in on some classic downhill action on a famous track full of skateboarding history. (Peep that shot above from Action Now Magazine! Old School Cool, indeed!)
Taking note of said photo and keeping with the old school vibe, this race isn’t gonna let you just roll in on whatever setup you please. There are rules to be followed! Here they are:
- Boards must not exceed a maximum length of 30″, nose to tail.
- Trucks must be standard kingpin and cast, NO precisions.
- No restrictions on wheels, anything goes.
There’s also some other rules to check out at the sign-up page, but these are the ones we’re stoked on. SPEC RACE! Good times are definitely ahead, both during and after the race! There’s some sort of shindig planned at a skate-facility, but that’s all still TBA. It’s one of those you-gotta-know-to-know kinda things.
Here’s the Facebook page if you’ve got some Q’s.
And, yes, there’s a podium to be decided on as well! $2,000 will be divvied up amongst the top contenders. There’ll also be awards given out for top speeds and so on. Perhaps even something special for the rider with the “jankiest setup”! Not bad for a day of fun with the bros!
