As many of you already know, there is a new founded sanctioning body for the racing of downhill skateboarding, luge, & rollerblading. This new organization is called the International Downhill Federation, or IDF. Some prolific downhill skateboarders and international organizers make up this new organization, and we’re looking forward to seeing how things progress.
Just this morning, John Ozman of Volcanic Promotions announced that the 2013 Maryhill Festival of Speed will no longer be sanctioned by the IGSA, but rather, by this new sanctioning body, the International Downhill Federation. Here’s the full-scoop and nothing but the scoop—peep it:
“Longbranch, WA. – In 2006, Volcanic Promotions created the Maryhill “Festival of Speed”™, a five day gravity sports festival that features Downhill Skateboard and Streetluge racing at its finest. The event has seen many successes and challenges over the years while being sanctioned by the International Gravity Sports Association as an IGSA World Cup event for 4 years as well as the IGSA World Championships on two other occasions. We would like to thank the IGSA for all the support they have given Volcanic Promotions.
Volcanic Promotions understands the sport continues to evolve and grow at a tremendous rate. It is important that we continue to evolve in a way that generates a positive direction while ensuring voices are heard on many fronts. With that said, the Maryhill “Festival of Speed”™ will no longer be sanctioned by the IGSA as a World Cup event. “I am also sad to say that I am stepping down as the North American Representative for the IGSA”, says John Ozman owner of Volcanic Promotions.
At this time, Volcanic Promotions and the Maryhill “Festival of Speed”™ will enter into a new venture with the International Downhill Federation (IDF), the event will be sanctioned at the IDF World Cup level. We value the goals, core values and structure that is being put in place by the IDF to further grow gravity sports in a democratic and accountability driven structure.
Maryhill “Festival of Speed™” will continue to foster a strong sense of community throughout the gravity sports industry. Furthermore, it reinforces the International Downhill Federation as a strong foundation for developing gravity sports in safe environments for both professional and aspiring amateur athletes.
We look forward to an exciting year of racing in 2013 and beyond.” (John Ozman of Volcanic Promotions)
