It’s official. Steve Lake, the founder of Sector 9 Skateboards, has retired/resigned from his position as CEO of the brand. It’s been over 20 years since Steve and his friends started Sector 9 in the backyard of a rented house in sunny La Jolla, Ca back in 1993. That said, change is the only constant in this world, and as such, Steve has decided to step down as President. Recently, Steve spoke with the website shopeatsurf.com and as they put it his reason for parting ways with Sector 9 has less to do with the current and ongoing turmoil with parent company Billabong and more to do with the fact that:
“his [Steve Lake] five-year contract was up, and he thought long and hard about all the time he was spending away from his wife and four kids. He decided he wanted to spend more time with them, especially while his kids were still living at home.” (Tiffany Montgomery via Shopeatsurf.com)
Sounds like a plan to us, Steve!—Kudos to you and your family—family is what it’s all about.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Steve and the entire Sector 9 posse for all their continued support for Wheelbase Magazine —without your support (since day-one) we would not exist. Appreciated!
Change is good and we expect only great and exciting things from all involved moving forward, and in the future.
