Re-introducing the second-ever Wheelbase Weekly Wrap-up for March 28-April 3, 2015!
To start things off, let us remind ya that the Muir Skate Downhill Disco is coming up soon on April 10-12, 2015 in San Diego, and also that the Comet Skateboard‘s hosted Ithaca Slide Jam is happening on May 9, 2024 in Ithaca, New York.
Speaking of Comet Skateboards, they are holding a re-edit contest called the Brucin’ USA ReCut Contest. As it turns out, the contest is exactly what it sounds like: they want you to re-edit their footage from their recent “Brucin’ USA Tour” into whatever you can come up with! Full details can be found at the Comet Website.
Pop a Dramamine and come along with Patrick Switzer on a bumpy follow-cam run down an impressive track in Oslob, Cebu, Philippines. And while we’re discussing “raw” filming styles, here are two other homie-esque edits to get your skate juices flowing: Camilo Cespedes Raw Run for Predator Helmets and No Future’s Cameron Lawrence on the FTP.
In the words of Levi Hawken (and also sorta Dave Chappelle), “Top five skateboarders of all time: Byron, Byron, Byron, Byron, and Byron“. And speaking of Byron Essert, the dude’s got himself a pro model wheel via these wheels! (We’re stoked for you, buddy!)
Video of the week — Byron’s Wheel Release edit:
The Caliber Truck Co. homies have just released an upgraded “Version II” of their standard kingpin trucks, and along with it this new video ”Caliber Truck Co. Presents: Bay Days” featuring their growing and talented street team shredding in Nor Cal at a few super sick parks and DIY spots.
Continuing along on the thought of standard kingpin trucks, some technical wizardry caught our attention throughout this last week. Check out Taylor Bray‘s Frontside 360 Front-Foot Impossible, then check out Sid Melvin and the Krux Trucks crew with a polejam-jam, and tie it all up with a teaser for Killian Martin‘s next project with filmmaker Brett Novak.
A bigger fan of the hills than the flats, are ya? We’ve got you covered! This here piece of downhill deliciousness is Original Skateboards’ 2014 Eurotour edit featuring Aleix Gallimo and friends. And this raw piece of booty-viewin’ beauty is Yeehaw Gear‘s newest team rider Michal Cihlar gettin’ some on a local run. Our pal Kris Haro also made a kickass flyer for the upcoming Burke Mountain Freeride event, and we want y’all to see it! Have a look at Kris’ website for some more artisanal inspiration while you’re at it!
The city council of Victoria, BC, Canada has agreed to lift a decade-old ban on skateboarding in the downtown area. We’ll call that a win! A small one, sure, but a win none-the-less! Radical, downhill homegirl Micaela Wilson dropped by the Loaded Ambassadors YouTube channel to deliver a trick tip video on the topic of “squatted check slides”. The Arbor Collective released this mini-documentary/artist highlight on Kyler Martz. Kyler is a visual artist from the NorthWest who creates some of the rad artwork you see on Arbor’s skateboard line-up.
And now, for some comic relief, check out this filmer getting run over and living to tell the tale (Spoiler Alert: April Fools!), flash back to your younger days of playing THPS with your homies after school, and find some inspiration in whatever the hell this contraption will come to be called. (We love to giggle at silly stuff. If you find any skate-related silliness, send it our way!
Rumor has it: Eric Jensen needs a new truck sponsor, Amanda Powell needs several new gear sponsors, and Steven Vera has taken over Bustin Brooklyn as the new shop manager!
As for us here at wheelbasemag.com this week, we’ve dropped our new Wheelbase Print Edition: Issue Three! Pick it up in the Wheelbase Store or from a skateshop near you!
