Comet Skateboards Opens New Retail Store In Ithaca, NY.
Jason Salfi and the Comet Crew have opened the doors of their first-ever Comet Retail Store. The New Comet store is located (126 The Commons) in downtown Ithaca, NY, and adjoins the current Comet offices.
The new Comet store is stocked full with a range of Comet skateboards, accessories, and apparel; as well as some exclusive products that you won’t find anywhere else on the planet, such as: art boards, limited editions, and other random acts of unique craftsmanship.
The Comet crew has some pretty cool plans for this new storefront. Once settled in, they’ll be hosting smokin’ BBQs, artsy art shows, as well as some jammin’ live music.
As many of you know, Comet is a skateboard company that goes the extra-mile in order to make a positive impact on the skateboard community and the larger human community as a whole. In the tradition of effecting change through example, Comet is introducing “Ithaca Hours” as a form of payment in the new store. What this is is a bartering system intended to represent a fair wage of $10 per hour—you do work for someone and you receive the corresponding “Ithaca Hours” denomination to use in town. This bartering system has been in use in Ithaca for over twenty years now. The idea is that it has a built-in social justice ethic as well as promotes local businesses sustainability and community growth. Not to mention there is no tax, interest, or potential for your payment to leave town. Local.
Wheelbase homie and Comet team rider Liam Morgan is in Ithaca right now working at the new shop and learning the skateboard manufacturing process from top to bottom. He hit us up last night and said he is having a great time and learning a lot.
Anyway, if you’re in the Ithaca area make sure to stop by the new Comet store and check it out. If you’re coming from afar, make sure to drop them a line so that they can prepare you a proper welcome. Shredlove.
