Board Review: Comet “Takeover”
The Comet Takeover is a 9-ply maple flush-mount downhill-deck featuring a wheelbase of 27″, width of 10″, and an overall length of 39 1/4″. This board has a .5″ directional rocker, a medium concave, and four substantial wheelwells.
The Testing:
For out testing of the Takeover we took it down a few runs at this year’s 2012 Giant’s Head Freeride in Summerland, Canada.
Results/Findings:
Pros:
This board is a comfortable hill bomber and a nimble freeridning deck. The lowering and flattening effect of the flushmounting combine with the board’s forward rocker allows for maximum stability while retaining the originally intended geometry of the trucks. The medium concave and ample wheelwells provide a locked-in ride and added confidence when turning. The tail is also pretty fun for clacking ollies.
Cons:
Although this board get’s a big thumbs up here at Wheelbase Magazine, at times though, the Takeover‘s solid 9-ply maple construction can feel a bit on the heavier side.
Overall:
The Comet Takeover is a super responsive downhill board providing confidence at speed and the agility and maneuverability to catch wreck on some serious slide action. If you are looking to get rad down some winding roads, we believe this board is a real good option.

Addendum: Ooops! The Comet Takeover has a rocker of .5″, obviously not a whole 5″. Apologies for the mistake.
