Board Review: Loaded Fattail

The Loaded Fatail is a performance flex-board with medium to slight concave, a visible camber running between the trucks, as well as a mellow nose- and kick-tail. The deck is 38” in length with an adjustable wheelbase of either 26.5” or 27”. Its width is 8.5″ near the front truck and tapers to 8” at the rear truck. The deck construction is a vertical bamboo core with triaxle fiberglass on the top and bottom, plus another thin layer of bamboo on the bottom. Aesthetically, the board has an understated natural bamboo finish with a sprouting graphic. The deck also comes standard with a unique griptape design. Like many of Loaded boards, the Fattail comes in three flexes: 1, 2, 3. (for this review, we’re riding a flex 2). Check out loadedboards.com for more info on your specific flex needs.
The Testing:
In order to test the Fattail, we took it to some of our favorite local spots. We hit some mild hills, some crazy banks, some curbs, and a few other impromptu spots we found along the way.
Results/Findings:
Pros: We enjoyed the shorter length of the Fattail as compared to something like a Dervish—we felt is added to a quicker and more agile ride. The Camber, flex and concave combination provided for an enhanced response through turns and the general shredding experience. Also, the tail and nose opened up our riding to a broader range of possibilities.
Cons: Because our Wheelbase reviewers had larger feet, they’d have liked to see a bit more width on the deck overall. Also, we performed this review on a flex 2 Fattail, but we’d have liked to have used a stiffer flex 1.
Overall: We found the Fatatil to be a super-responsive, nimble, and quite capable flex-board with the abilities to tackle a diverse range of terrain. Although we’d prefer it a bit wider, and maybe stiffer, we really enjoyed riding it, and recommend it to any skater interested in performance flex-board.

I wear size 12 shoes. Should I go with this board or the Vanguard? I am a little bit concerned about the overhang that my feet will have and i realize that the Vanguard is a wider board. Thanks!
Both are rad boards for zipping around. The Vanguard does have a wider deck so if that is what you are looking for then do the Van, but note that it’s a bit longer and has no nose or tail area for shuvits and whathaveyou. Anyway, get some and get rad. Hope this helps a bit. Stay rollin’.
