Board Review: Original Skateboard’s “Apex 40″

| June 13, 2024 | Comments (0)

Original Skateboard‘s “Apex 40” is constructed of maple laminates and carbon reinforced fiberglass and comes in two styles. Our testing was done on the Double Concave version. The Apex is 40 ¾” in length, 91/2” wide, has an adjustable wheelbase, as well as symmetrical nose and tail kicks. The board also features a micro drop and a mellow concave.

The Testing:

For our testing of the Apex 40 we hit one of our local spots. We added a new feature to the mix this time around, as well as busted a couple flateground moves.

Results/Findings:

Pros:

This board’s lightweight and ample flex create an extremely responsive freeride experience. The quarter-inch micro drops are just enough to provide that “locked-in” feeling while still allowing ample foot mobility.

Cons:

The flex of this board, while fun for speed checks, made it feel a little twitchy during higher speed rotations. Also, the slightly pointed kicktails were not as functional as we would have liked them to be.

Overall:

The Apex 40 is a really fun, lightweight, ultra-responsive performance flex board. We liked it best when doing slides, shuvits, and manuals and although the flex of the board offered some getting used to, we really had a blast riding the this deck.
