Greetings Skaters, and welcome to the second edition of the SkateHouseMedia Mashup. We decided that this month we would discuss the topic of Crew. Crew being the group of people you kick-it with, the homies and homettes who got your back when shit goes down, and the gang of skaters you shred-the-gnar with on a regular basis.
Although much of the actual act of skateboarding is an individual and personal experience, there is definitely an element that is very social. In downhill skateboarding, the social aspect of riding is especially visible, and that is exactly why we’re here today featuring the SkateHouseMedia as an example of Crew—their Crew rolls tight; these dudes skate together 24-7, and in close packs. They constantly shift positions on the road and bump off of one another at speeds exceeding 60mph—now you gotta be pretty comfortable with a homie to be cool with him rollin’ that close while mobbing into a critical hairpin. You need to know a brotha pretty well—trust is everything.
Anyway, in order to not beat the proverbial “dead-horse”, we’ll just leave you with this radical pack-shot of the SkateHouse crew, as well as a timeless quote from SkateHouse Crewman, Maxwell Dubler:
Matt Kienzle, Louis Pilloni, James Kelly, Max Dubler, and Kody Noble (missing: Brian Peck). Photo: Hong Kong Mike.
“Skateboarding is both solitary and social. It’s something you do by yourself, with other people. I have the most fun when I’m learning new things, and I get motivated to learn new things when I’m skating with people better than I am.
The SkateHouse is rad because we all push each other on different terrain. Brian is excellent at not bending his knees, James has the go-fast-and-slide freeride steez, Louis has the ability to hold on and ride it out no matter what, Matt has no regard for personal safety, Kody rocks tech tricks, and I can scratch frontside grinds on anything. We balance each other out to form an equilibrium of radness” (Max Dubler, circa 1842)
You guys are an inspiration to us all, keep shredding the GNAR!!!!
